Alsace shares its borders with two countries, Germany & Switzerland and is located in the heart of a fantastic urban concentration of economic development. It is the third most densely populated region of France Metropolitan (1.9 million) behind Île-de-France and the North-Pas-de-Calais. Strasbourg is the largest city in the region, followed by Mulhouse and Colmar. The villages Ungersheim and Feldkirch are in the south of the region, in the department of the Haut-Rhin. They form part of the *Euro district with namely Colmar; Mulhouse; Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany and Basel, Switzerland.
Alsace being just minutes away from Germany and Switzerland, it enjoys a remarkable location. The city of Mulhouse, in the heart of the region within the three borders in the plain of Alsace, is located only 30 km from Switzerland, 14 km from Germany and 20 km from the Vosges Mountains. Its strategic position makes it a city of transit in Europe.
Easy access to the site is guaranteed:
This allows quick access to the Mulhouse agglomeration.
*A Euro district is an administrative entity of European urban centers located on both sides of
a border. The reconversion of an industrial “no-mans land” : an exemplary rehabilitation
The project is located on a former mine site « Terril Alex » on a plot of 27 hectares straddling the towns of Ungersheim and Feldkirch. The land being adapted and treated presents all the characteristics required: a big open surface or area, a landscape more or less accentuated, the recovery of the flora after general desalination of the urban area.
The rehabilitation of the mining lands is a means of preserving the “collective memory” to restore it to “nature and for public use”. In addition, this area being a reference point, it is important to give it a new meaning, a stronger concept.
In reference to the project, the towns of Ungersheim and Feldkirch are particularly of interest. On the one hand, there is an important tourist attraction thanks to the presence of the Ecomuseum and the Bioscope as well as the future project of Pierre & Vacances, which creates a potential synergy. They belong to the CAMS (Urban Community of Mulhouse Sud Alsace) which are a major asset.
The two mayors are supporting this project that shows a beneficial aspect for their towns in a social and environmental way.
Ungersheim also has the advantage of having an adapted swimming pool for the disabled. Finally, the region shows important tourist assets, thanks to many parks and museums, a mountainous region (Vosges) and its famous wine route.
